Original and Edited- Spencer

EDITED IMAGES

I used 'Be Funky', to create these edits of Spencer's images. I experimented with different effects and contrasts of features. The use of different colours show how the image can transform to fit a particular genre due to the colour. For example the darker and gold like colour use, creates a old and scary atmosphere as if the photo was taken in the dark.

I used Sketch to edit these images, to experiment and view which images would be best to use in my print products. I used the magic wand to edit the background, and make it white, leaving the figure in the centre on the image. I used this tool in my photo editing, because, the existing examples which I have researched for my movie poster, include different characters on the same page, but placed into another image of another character. In order to make this effect work on a poster, it is important that the image has not background, so that the figure attracts most attention.

EDITED IMAGES

In the following screenshot above, I used Sketch to edit the images, by using the magic wand. I then had to make sure that the white background only covers around the figure, making the image look more simple. I edited this image because when creating the poster I could use one image of every character in the background of the poster. The following image shoes the editing techniques and how I used them to create the fine edited image.

Poster research

The following collage of the different posters are much different to the previous poster research posters. I decided to look deeply into a certain design, which portrays more of certain characters which will then give the audience more of an idea about what is going on in the movie. As seen in the posters, 'The next three days', 'Enemy', 'the girl with the dragon tattoo'and 'Macbeth', that another image is presented inside the image of a hard, or body of a character. This is effective because it makes the viewer think about the significance of characters, and why the poster is presented in that sort of way. This also links in to the psychological theme as it zooms in on character identity.

1st Poster Idea's feedback

The following shows the feedback I received from our first poster idea drafts. Most of feedback is positive, however due to all the improvements mentioned we have decided not to use these ideas because they lack in informing the audience what the film is based on, and the genre is film is to presented.

Poster Research Survey and Audience Feedback

Although most of the feedback received was positive, the improvements needed show me that I will not be using these poster idea's, because it does not fit in the genre, and there is a lack of narrative shown to the audience, the poster could be perceived as un-interesting. Another reason why I don't want to use these poster idea's because there is a lack of creativity and I don't think it will appeal to a psychologically genre target audience.

Poster idea's

The following image shows the first poster idea's that we came up with. As seen in the image we was inspired by the direct eye contact elements in existing products, and so we decided to use eyes on the poster as a idea. The image shows all the character's eyes which is effective because it gives a mysterious atmosphere, fitting in to psychological thriller genre.

The following images show some of the idea's done on the software Sketch. This was a good idea for development because it gives us a good idea of how the poster will be presented on the software. the use of close up on eyes emphasise the characters as being most important in the psychological thriller. The colours that we used are basic but effective, as we used black, white and red, as they are common.
The poster ideas which include a medium shot of the side of a face, is effective because that way the audience would be able to see more of each character, including the costumes.

Question 1A planning (Mr Love)

Print Products- Poster Research

I made a collage of a variety of psychological thriller movie posters. As seen in the following collage, I used different styles of layout. In the 'Case 39; poster and 'Before I go to sleep', the eyes of the characters are focused on, linking to the 'Side effects' poster , as the close ups show the importance of the facial expressions.I was inspired by this idea of showing face features in close ups because it emphasises the facts the movie is a psychological thriller, as a common convention of psychological movies in the main focus on character's are their identity. The close ups and facial expressions shows what kind of personality a character could have, giving a slight insight into the narrative of the movie.
Other movie posters such as 'Shutter Island' and 'Gone girl', feature extreme long shots, which both show the back to one singular character. This is effective because it shows the psychological theme as being a element as the setting in the background could show the setting of the movie, but it also could connate a complicated mind (as a psychological character). The direct address of eye contact to the audience shows that the character is looking straight at the viewer which could catch the attention of the audience.
All of the different posters have different font styles, but all of them are bold and stand out, so it's easy for the viewer to read. The main colours used are, red black and white which are common colours for thriller, as they connate danger and horror. White also stands out on a dark background, and black stands out on a light background.

Pitch- Narrative Survey & Audience research

Create your own user feedback survey

The screenshot shows the audience feedback I received about my narrative idea. Overall the feedback received is positive and the characters and twists are a main point which the audience particularly liked. This shows us that we can continue to develop our narrative, and there is no need to change many things at this moment. However, due to so much events that take place in the plot, it is understandable that the audience may get confused at points, such as when detective Lopez continues tracks down all the different characters. Another positive point about the narrative was that it was different and unexpected which creates suspense and as shown fro the feedback, excites the audience and motivates them in wanting to find out what happens in the end.
My media teacher gave me feedback on my narrative and mentioned the the confusion of the narrative due to all the twists and turns however, he also mentioned the big reveal in the end is exciting and effective, which is positive feedback.

Practice Camera Shots

The following shots are taken in the location of which Spencer and Patrik's house . The following  angles were taken in order to view the lighting and experiment on the various angles and shots which could be used for the scene where, the mysterious man in black (who is actually Patrik) suspiciously is walking up the stairs. I included this scene in the trailer plan because it creates suspense, and the shouted also portrays the mood and atmosphere. As shown on the images above, certain images look more mysterious than others.

The following images were taken of the character who is going to play Patrik in the trailer. The use of dark lighting was experimented to show what type of shots may be taken in dim lighting, checking that the character is seen clearly. As seen in the following images, recording in the dark blurs out the character's face, which is a disadvantage when filming, as the filming looks like it's been done with a low quality camera. The different angles and shot shown are mostly medium long shots and medium close ups, and close ups.
In order to improve this problem of dark lighting, this can be solved when editing in iMovie, as we could brighten the shot while makes it easier for the viewer to see what's going on.
As seen in the following images, by using iMovie, I experimented with what effects are available, and I enhanced the shot in order to see how the image/ shoot turns out.

Final Case File- Prop

Case File- Feedback

The feedback given by my target audience shows that the most popular case file template was the second option, as it uses the badge logo of the an police department, and the fonts are simple and straight forward.
Now that I have received accurate feedback, I can develop the final case file and ass the image and print the file out, ready to use when filming the movie trailer.
