Magazine Title Feedback

The following images show the feedback I received from the target audience. As seen in the images, there is a variety of chooses that the research has resulted in. The following tables shows the results for the names of the film magazine cover. The most popular choices for names was 'Darkness' and 'Silverlight's'. This shows me that my target audience prefer these names rather than the others.

Magazine Title Questionairre

The document shows the document I created, which is a questionnaire in order to get some audience feedback on which title the audience refers. I used this technique to gain feedback because so far most of my audience feedback has been done through the use of technology, so the idea of a questionnaire  is unique.

Movie Magazine: Masthead Research

Before creating my masthead for the film magazine cover, I decided to do some research into what type of mastheads and used in a movie cover. The following images show the different types of mastheads previous companies have used.
From this research I learnt that the mastheads's are usually bold and simple so they stand out to the audience.

Movie Magazine Research

Movie Magazine have similar conventions to any music magazine, which I constructed in my AS work. Certain features are important for the magazine to stand out. The masthead has to be bold and large so its easy for the audience to recognise it. This is commonly placed at the top of the page as seen in examples given above. This contributes as a visual syntax so it draws the audience. The house style of the magazine must be recognisable and the fonts must fit in with the genre of the movie magazine. The main image is commonly placed in the centre of the page, and the shot usually used is the close up or medium close-up, this is so the character is able to make direct address to the audience. The image must be large so that the audience feels drawn to the character on the front, and the image must portray the character they are playing in the movie, as it gives the audience more on a insight to the movie. Features included on the front image as usually, makeup, costume, body language, hair style, and hairstyles.
Cover lines are used in a magazine to draw the attention of audience. Words used commonly are: Starring, Featuring, Special. These type of words would interest the reader as it would make them want to read on, and the cover lines could include other blockbuster movies which the audience could be interested in. The tagline, which is commonly placed underneath the main headline is usually short and catchy. This is needed in a magazine as it gives an insight to the audience about what the article is about.
Sometimes props, on the cover, are used depending on the type of movie. In a movie magazine they're can be smaller images on the front page to show other issues of the magazine which may appeal to same genre of the movie magazine, and this may appeal to the audience. Additional information such as bar code and issue dates are usually found together as its separate information for the audience.
Pugs are shapes that may be used to make a specific piece of information stand out more, as a special issue. This is used to attract more of the target audience. Banners are also in movie magazine and are usually placed at the bottom or the top of the magazine poster. The banner usually features competitions or features included for the audience.

Poster Feedback

In order to choose my final poster for "Think Twice', I decided to gain some feedback from my target audience. I gained my feedback by sending the 2 final drafts to my target audience, from 'WhatsApp' software. This media is easy and simple to use. As you can see below, The feedback I received is presented.

Creating My Movie Poster

When creating my movie poster, I used Photoshop to edit my image, and as shown in the screenshots below, I experimented with several different image effects, to see which one fitted in best with the theme of psychological horror.
I decided to use the effect of double exposure, as it fits in perfectly with the mysterious characters in the narrative. After researching previous psychological movie posters, I was most inspired by the 'Gone girl' poster which is why I have used. similar image with a effective background.

Poster Feedback

For my poster feedback I recorded what my target audience thinks about my mock up's for the 'think twice' movie poster mock ups
The main feedback that I received was based around, the image quality, and the credits at the bottom of the posters are on a background, making the poster look unprofessional. The use of different character was also a suggestion made, to show the range of characters who are involved in the narrative.

Poster Idea's

Here are my draft mock ups for my film poster of 'Think Twice'. I started of using images without editing, as I was experimenting with the positioning of the each feature of the poster. As seen in the following image, I included:
  • Film Title
  • Actor names
  • Slogan
  • Film credits
  • Releasing information
When creating and position of the actors names, I learnt that they names look best close to the title, mostly above the title, depending on where the title is positioned. I also edited the game further by making the surname text larger, so they stand out more. I used drop shadow effects to make the names fits in with the title, and make the colour stand out on the lighter or darker backgrounds.
As seen in the blog post, the posters higher up on the blog are the oldest versions, which I began to create using Sketch. The lower down you go on the blog, the latest version of the poster shown, showing the improvements I have made to my work, and the skills such as, no background needed on film credits, which lead to better quality posters, making them look more professional.

More photo's

We toke some more photo using a fuji camera, to grasp a better profile of image we could use in our print products. In order to create a new poster style, after experimenting with the double exposure, we decided to take some more images, similar to the ones we mentioned in the inspiration blog post. The following images show the main character of our movie, Patrik, standing along with a background of the sky. Also, after taking inspiration from the gone girl movie posters, we decided to take some two shots of two of the main characters, to make the poster look mysterious.
