Movie Magazine Research

Movie Magazine have similar conventions to any music magazine, which I constructed in my AS work. Certain features are important for the magazine to stand out. The masthead has to be bold and large so its easy for the audience to recognise it. This is commonly placed at the top of the page as seen in examples given above. This contributes as a visual syntax so it draws the audience. The house style of the magazine must be recognisable and the fonts must fit in with the genre of the movie magazine. The main image is commonly placed in the centre of the page, and the shot usually used is the close up or medium close-up, this is so the character is able to make direct address to the audience. The image must be large so that the audience feels drawn to the character on the front, and the image must portray the character they are playing in the movie, as it gives the audience more on a insight to the movie. Features included on the front image as usually, makeup, costume, body language, hair style, and hairstyles. 
Cover lines are used in a magazine to draw the attention of audience. Words used commonly are: Starring, Featuring, Special. These type of words would interest the reader as it would make them want to read on, and the cover lines could include other blockbuster movies which the audience could be interested in. The tagline, which is commonly placed underneath the main headline is usually short and catchy. This is needed in a magazine as it gives an insight to the audience about what the article is about.
Sometimes props, on the cover,are used depending on the type of movie. In a movie magazine they're can be smaller images on the front page to show other issues of the magazine which may appeal to same genre of the movie magazine, and this may appeal to the audience. Additional information such as bar code and issue dates are usually found together as its separate information for the audience. 
Pugs are shapes that may be used to make a specific piece of information stand out more, as a special issue. This is used to attract more of the target audience. Banners are also in movie magazine and are usually placed at the bottom or the top of the magazine poster. The banner usually features competitions or features included for the audience.
